Pembentukan Moral di Era Pascakebenaran: Tantangan Epistemik bagi Pendidikan Kristiani

Abstract

The post-truth era, in which appeals to emotion and personal belief outweigh objective facts, poses a challenge that is not merely informational but epistemic and moral. This article aims to analyze why the post-truth condition specifically threatens moral formation in Christian education (CE) and to propose a theologically grounded response. Employing a critical-conceptual study of recent theological, philosophical, and educational literature, the research argues that moral formation presupposes a commitment to truth; therefore, subordinating truth to preference, emotion, and tribal identity corrodes the very ground on which CE forms persons. Four concrete epistemic challenges are mapped: the erosion of epistemic trust, confirmation bias and echo chambers, the temptation of anti-intellectual fideism, and the teacher-competence gap. As a way forward, the article proposes cultivating intellectual and moral virtues within a community of truthful practice, anchored in a theological epistemology of “proper confidence.” Its contribution is a virtue-based framework for post-truth-resilient moral formation in CE.

Era pascakebenaran, ketika seruan kepada emosi dan keyakinan pribadi mengungguli fakta objektif, menghadirkan tantangan yang bukan sekadar informasional, melainkan epistemik dan moral. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis mengapa kondisi pascakebenaran secara khusus mengancam pembentukan moral dalam pendidikan Kristiani (PK) serta mengusulkan respons yang berpijak pada landasan teologis. Menggunakan metode kajian konseptual-kritis atas literatur teologi, filsafat, dan pendidikan mutakhir, penelitian ini berargumen bahwa pembentukan moral mengandaikan komitmen pada kebenaran; karena itu, penundukan kebenaran kepada preferensi, emosi, dan identitas kesukuan menggerus dasar tempat PK membentuk pribadi. Empat tantangan epistemik konkret dipetakan: erosi kepercayaan epistemik, bias konfirmasi dan ruang gema, godaan fideisme anti-intelektual, serta kesenjangan kompetensi guru. Sebagai jalan keluar, artikel mengusulkan pembentukan keutamaan intelektual-moral dalam komunitas praktik yang jujur, berlabuh pada epistemologi teologis “keyakinan yang sepatutnya.” Kontribusinya adalah kerangka berbasis keutamaan untuk pembentukan moral PK yang tahan terhadap pascakebenaran.
