Refleksi Misi Gereja melalui Pembacaan Narasi Kota Babel

Abstract

The church has not escaped the Covid-19 pandemic, but the church must not ignore God's mission for her because of the Covid-19 pandemic. In this paper, the author describes the story of the city of Babel from Genesis 11:1-9, where humans disobeyed God's mission to carry out cultural mandates as the reason for its creation. God must intervene as a punishment for them while simultaneously declaring His grace by returning humans to His original mission: to spread them all over the earth. Using the Proflective Church of Joas Adiprasetya, the author reflects on the story of the city of Babel on the post-Covid-19 church mission. The church, which is "wounded" by the pandemic, must continue to walk out doing God's mission in a limping way by looking to the future at a very close distance and orienting itself to others who are also limping due to the pandemic. 

Abstrak

Gereja tidak luput dari pandemi Covid-19, namun gereja tidak boleh mengabaikan misi Allah baginya karena pandemi Covid-19. Dalam tulisan ini, penulis menguraikan narasi kota Babel dari Kejadian 11:1-9, dimana manusia tidak taat pada misi Allah untuk mengerjakan mandat budaya sebagai alasan penciptaannya. Allah harus intervensi sebagai hukuman kepada mereka, sekaligus menyatakan anugerah-Nya dengan mengembalikan manusia pada misi-Nya semula, yaitu menyebarkan mereka ke seluruh bumi. Menggunakan Gereja Proflektif Joas Adiprasetya, penulis melakukan refleksi narasi kota Babel terhadap misi gereja secara khsus pascapandemi Covid-19. Gereja yang sedang “terluka” karena pendemi, harus terus berjalan keluar mengerjakan misi Allah yang tertatih-tatih, dengan memandang ke masa depan dalam jarak yang sangat dekat, dan mengarahkan diri pada yang lain yang juga sedang tertatih karena pandemi.
