Abstrak

This article analyzes ecological stewardship as a theological framework for developing a sustainable environmental ethic by fundamentally reconstructing theological anthropology. By integrating the patristic theological tradition and contemporary eco-theology, this article argues that the imago Dei is not only a privilege but also a moral responsibility in the stewardship of the environment. The contemporary ecological crisis is understood as the result of an anthropological distortion that alienates humans from nature and frames human dominion as exploitation rather than responsibility. This article develops the concept of ecological stewardship through four dimensions: theological (God’s acts of creation and redemption), cosmological (the integration of humanity and creation), ethical (principles of justice and sustainability), and practical (concrete implementation in community life). Through connections with creation theology, eschatological theology, and principles of distributive justice, this article offers a framework for societal transformation toward a sustainable future that prioritizes ecological integrity, social justice, and the dignity of all creatures.
